Julie and Julia

Since I am totally immersed in knitting and calculating for this project, I have no time to read. The new movie with Meryl Streep and Amy Adams written and directed by Nora Ephron on the base of Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously by Julie Powell caught my attention and I bought the audio book. So, when I go to the gym I listen to it. I discovered that I am looking forward to exercise now. So far I did not make my mind if I really like the book, but there are many things that speak to me on different levels. One is growing up with my dad and watching him making magic in the kitchen. I love to cook myself, but not like my dad. When Julie ,who is turning 30, talks about cooking techniques and ingredients , I love it. I would not ever want to go through the whole book of Julia Child and cook all 524 recipes in it, but I admire anyone who would.

July is almost over

There are 4 more days of July left and I am trying to finish my project for the magazine publication. I am working on sleeves now. Thankfully, they are three-quarter length. The body is done. Yay!! Monique looks good in it. That's encouraging. She is as fussy as I am, so if she is happy, I am happy. I swear she can talk even she is a mannequin.
To take my mind off the project I started to crochet a hat. I am thinking that I will make it as a pattern for my Ravelry store. This is how it looks right now. To tell you the truth, I am not even sure what is going to happen after this. It is so nice to design as you go. With crochet it is more possible than with knitting. I am going to use both colors, since what you see is all I have in terms of yarn. Exciting!

The Usual Summer

I am trying to stay inside since it is 106F outside. When you come out of the store, you feel it is like one huge sauna all around you. Is this unusual? No. This is our normal summer here, but every time the heat wave comes over it feels like you experiencing it for the first time in your life. Many people like it that way, but I am not one of those fans of hot weather. I am not complaining since I have AC at home and can do my work.
My project for a major magazine is in progress and so far I am happy with the way it looks. I cannot wait to see the result myself. I promise to take many pictures before I send it off, but I will be able to show them much later.
I wish all of you cool weather and great summer vacations.

Love Being Busy

I maybe weird, but I love being busy. The busier I am the more things I accomplish. Give me more time to relax and nothing will be done around here. So, what am I doing? I am still working on the house, doing some designing and getting ready for school. Oh, how I wish I could show you the hat I finished today. I made it out of very soft and nice yarn called Dolce from Cascade Yarns. It is a great blend of alpaca, silk, and wool. Hopefully the pictures I took of this hat can be shown soon. Three more patterns are in works. Today the yarn I was waiting for about two weeks came. With gorgeous color and a wonderful texture it is just perfect. The deadline is very short for this project, ,but I need to meet it. The project is for a magazine, so shh...we are not telling anyone, right?

New book

Well, Kara Gott Warner did it again. The new book It’s in the Bag: Knitting Projects to Take & Make will be on the shelves very soon. I have one design in this book, so I will get to see the book before it is out. I promise to tell you more after I get it. For now, this is the cover.

Berroco's KnitBits

I am slowly moving back to my house. Do any of you feel that when you come back to a familiar place after a long time it looks very different? When I was a child, my parents sent me to a monthly camp outside the city. I had the same feeling coming back. Our apartment looked very spacious and different to me every time. So here I am after 6 months of absence from my home and feeling that I am looking at my house through a different set of eyes. This has led to some rearranging of the furniture, thousands of books onto new bookshelves, organization of our clothes closet (YAY!!), and some bathroom refurbishing. It will take two more weeks to get it all done, but I am up to knitting and designing in the midst of it all. Tonight I am meeting with my knitting friends. I am very happy to see them. I cannot believe myself, but I did not visit my friends at the local yarn shop HeartStrings Yarn Studio yet. I will make sure to do this soon.

Meanwhile, Knitting in the Sun is doing very well. Berroco’s newsletter advertised the book and showed 4 patterns made out of their yarn. Guess what, my skirt Black Sea is featured there among the four designs. I got quite a traffic from that to my Ravelry page and to my blog.

I am knitting this skirt now for myself. The yarn I am using is Galway by Plymouth and I love the look of it so far.

I am working on a new design. Here is a swatch for it. You will have to wait a bit for more details on this one. I have a few projects with yarn ready to start, but the project that goes with this swatch is first in line.
